‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Michelle Dockery on Mary’s future
Over the past several weeks, we have heard some major scoop when it comes to Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary on “Downton Abbey” season 4; however, very little of it has actually come from the actress herself … at least until now. (Warning: stop reading now if you want to avoid spoilers for the rest of the season in America!)
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a new interview, Dockery explained that while there are reports out there saying that Mary is going to have a new love interest moving forward on the show (and producers are even casting the role already), she still does not feel as though this is going to come particularly easy for the character to simply just move past Matthew after his death:
“I imagine Mary will not be able to move on very quickly … It will be very difficult to replace the love of her life. The thing is that for the third [season] Mary was largely happy and content and they got the money to save Downton. I find myself smiling more often as the character and my guess is that I will not being that smile again for awhile. I’m sure she won’t come out of mourning too quickly.”
Dockery will be back on set in just a matter of several weeks now, as the story for season 4 is written out already and the actors are starting to receive scripts. We have actually said a number of times that there was not necessarily any need for Mary to find love again right away; but then again, the fans of the show obviously want to see Mary happy, and they don’t want it to be damaged by Dan Stevens’ decision to leave the show.
