‘Homeland’ season 3 spoilers: Diego Klattenhoff not returning as Mike
There are some major changes coming on “Homeland,” and one of the moving forward is making sure that the story is placed more on the world away from Nicholas Brody. How do we know this? Let’s just say that the Showtime drama has now done their best to ensure that one familiar face will not be around in a regular capacity moving forward.
According to a new report from TVLine, Diego Klattenhoff, who you probably know better as Brody’s fellow former soldier (and Jess’ lover) Mike during the first two seasons of the show, will not be returning as a series regular. This move comes only as a surprise since the actor previously claimed that he “heard” will will still be a part of the new season, but that may still be true (and he may merely just have a smaller role).
Of course, the positive that comes out of this for Klattenhoff is that this move comes at the perfect time for him to dive headfirst into pilot season, where he is almost assured to be a pretty sought-after catch given his experience on the Emmy-winning show. Translation? Don’t expect him to be out of work for very long, and in a few months we have a feeling that his future on “Homeland” will be determined based his own schedule.
As for the fate of some other actors including Morena Baccarin (Jess) and Brody’s children, that is still relatively unclear … though we do still expect to see them in at least a recurring capacity. The show may opt to keep them as regulars to ensure their presence for future stories, even if they only appear in a handful of episodes. The only complication with getting rid of Klattenhoff would be trying to explain what happened to Mike if Jess does become a large part of the story again.
