‘Saturday Night Live’: Justin Bieber not banning jokes on pot despite headlines
As you may have heard recently, “Saturday Night Live” has decided to make a very risky move in allowing pop superstar Justin Bieber to host their February 9 show … which is one that he is also set to perform on as a musical guest. Why is this so risky? You are really dealing with a guy who still has very little experience in acting, and of the “SNL” sketches that he has done in the past, he was helped mightily by the likes of Tina Fey and Andy Samberg.
However, Bieber is already doing one thing that is very smart prior to this show airing, and that is to really declare himself a completely open book. According to TMZ, Bieber has not set any limitations just yet as to whether or not any particular aspect of his life can be mocked. That means that if the “SNL” producers come up with a very funny way to incorporate his recent alleged use of pot into a sketch, that he may not end up objecting to it. After all, you have to be willing to make fun of yourself, especially on a late-night show where self-mockery is often front and center.
As for some other examples of celebrities who have used this show to mock their own behavior, just look at Alec Baldwin mocking his own incident aboard an airplane by dressing up as a pilot on a show, or by Miley Cyrus agreeing to appear as Justin Bieber during an episode of “The Miley Cyrus Show.”
Do you think this edition of “SNL” could be a great thing for Bieber if he comes out really ready and willing to spoof himself? We want to hear some more of your thoughts below, and you can read more about the initial announcement of him as host over at the link here.
