‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 spoiler: Alex Trebek, more for Robin Sparkles

Ready for a massive dose of “How I Met Your Mother” irony? The show has just announced a slew of faces that will be showing up for what could be the final chapter of Robin Sparkles saga, and they are largely all Canadian; then, CBS makes the video not available for viewing in Canada. Sorry, Tim Horton’s lovers everywhere!

Since the idea of our Canadian friends being shafted here is sad, let’s just try to smooth things along by talking about some of the big names who are going to be appearing (at least per this video) on the upcoming February 4 episode: Alan Thicke, Alex Trebek, Paul Shaffer, Jason Priestley, Geddy Lee, K.D. Lang, and many more. For whatever reason, James Van Der Beek is also thrown in here even though he grew up in Connecticut.

There’s no real word on just what this edition of Robin Sparkles will really be about just yet, but we certainly have a theory as to why it is being produced now: at the time the writing was being done here, producers were probably not sure whether or not this would be the final season; and if it was the end, they wanted to make sure that the show went out with a band. The only sad news here is that there’s no sighting for Nicole Scherzinger, who was memorable in her role as a fellow teen star hosting a Canadian morning show stuffed full of double entendres.

“How I Met Your Mother” season 8 will return on January 14 with an episode that will chronicle the immediate aftermath to Barney and Robin getting engaged, and Ray Wise will be showing up to play the part of her dad.
