‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8: Check out first promo of show’s return

In eight days, “How I Met Your Mother” season 8 will be back on TV, and the good news is that we have a new promo from CBS that shows it in addition to the other shows in the Monday lineup (“2 Broke Girls,” “Mike & Molly,” and a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory”). Unfortunately, that’s really where the good news ends, as this promo is really just a better reminder of what has actually happened on the show versus what is coming up.

With that in mind, we’ll just do our best to tell you instead about what is going to be happening here. The episode for this episode is “Band, or DJ?”, which seems almost from the get-go to be some sort of automatic allusion to what could be wedding planning for Barney and Robin. Could it be something more than that? Sure, but we know that the engagement between the two parties is going to be a key plot point in this episode.

Now that the two parties are engaged, there are two bits of unfinished business that Neil Patrick Harris’ character is going to have to work on:

1. Trying to find a way to talk to Ted about proposing to Robin, and how he was a part of a long-winded scheme that Barney had created in order to know for sure that Ted was ready to give up on her. (With that being said, this whole situation could still cause him to have second doubts.)

2. Meeting Robin’s father (Ray Wise), who he did not bother to talk to before popping the question. This, dear friends, could be trouble.
