‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9: Patrick Dempsey victorious in coffee battle

Patrick DempseyPatrick Dempsey is undoubtedly known to many women around the world as “McDreamy” thanks to his character on “Grey’s Anatomy,” but to a reasonably small coffee chain that was on the verge of shutting down for good, he may be known by a couple of other names soon: boss, and possibly hero. After all, he is now more connected than ever to the city of Seattle, which just so happens to be the place in which his hit ABC show is set.

We reported recently about an investment group led by Dempsey hoping to buy the Tully’s Coffee chain, and in a post on Twitter the actor proclaimed that he had been victorious tentatively in buying up the chain, and did so even with such rivals as Starbucks breathing down his neck:

“We met the green monster, looked her in the eye, and…SHE BLINKED! We got it! Thank you Seattle!”

While there is still a formal hearing coming up (and Starbucks is still hoping to find a way to buy the properties to convert them to their own brand), Dempsey seemed confident enough this weekend to actually travel around Seattle, visit a number of locations, and take pictures with many employees and customers of the chain. His big message now is for Tully’s to fry and find its own identity, which of course is not that easy of a task considering that Seattle is known for coffee chains, and has plenty of competition even away from Starbucks.

As we said in our original article, we still think that this is rather brilliant from a marketing standpoint that Dempsey can leverage the fame brought on him by “Grey’s Anatomy” in order to help make this chain a success. Let’s just hope now that the chain can use this momentum to start producing big money yet again.

Are you thrilled both for Dempsey and for Tully’s? If you want to see some more ways to get involved during next week’s episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” be sure to head on over to the link here.
