‘Doctor Who’ season 7: Matt Smith, other past doctors to receive postage stamps
“Doctor Who” fans in Great Britain have to be feeling extremely cool right about now; after all, the Royal Mail has just announced that beginning on March 26, they will be helping to celebrate the landmark series’ 50th anniversary by releasing a set of commemorative stamps featuring all of the men who have ever played the famed title role, including the current Doctor in Matt Smith and the first one in William Hartnell. If you are a fan of the show, we really cannot think of a gift that would be more perfect for you.
The stamps can be pre-ordered here, and they also feature a number of other memorable characters who have graced the show over the years: Daleks, Oods, Weeping Angels, and a Cyberman will be featured a miniature sheet with Second Class stamps, and they will be joined by the Doctor’s famous ship commonly known as TARDIS.
In a statement, Fiona Eastwood, who is the Product Development Director for BBC Worldwide Consumer Products, had the following to say about the decision to launch these stamps right now:
“The Doctor Who stamps are the perfect way to mark and celebrate the 50th anniversary of this much-loved programme … The collection is really impressive, and I am sure they will delight all Doctor Who fans.”
This is not the only way that the BBC are looking to honor “Doctor Who” this year, as the network is also going to be airing a 50th anniversary documentary looking back at the journey of the original series and its more-recent revival. Of course, this is all accompanied by some more episodes of the current season 7 featuring Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new Companion.
Who anxious are you already to get your hands on some of these? If you want to watch a trailer featuring much of what is coming up on “Doctor Who,” you can do so here.
