‘Downton Abbey’ season 3 Christmas special spoilers: Learn more on Lady Rose
We first met Lady Rose during the “Downton Abbey” season 3 finale, and it turns out that the character is going to have a rather important role to play, as well, during the upcoming Christmas special airing on Tuesday. While Earl Grantham in many ways represents the days and traditions of old, there is no better representation out there than this character of the young, excited British girl who is embracing the now and shocking generations before her. (Warning: the following contains spoilers for American readers.)
So what does the actress responsible for the part have to say about what is coming up specifically? Speaking as a part with a chat with the Mirror, Lily James specifically commented on her upcoming story by saying the following:
“[When] the Crawleys arrive at Duneagle, Rose is delighted to have some company and a bit of excitement … Rose turns up to the ball wearing a risqué dress and there are lots of men for her to flirt with. It was great fun learning to do traditional ceilidhs such as Strip The Willow, but it was very hard too.”
Just the word “risque” is probably going to be enough to send Robert into convulsions, and this should be a pretty fun dynamic to watch moving forward on the show. The character has already had a difficult enough time over the course of the past season trying to accept what both Tom Branson and his son-in-law Matthew have drilled into his head; and now, he is also being asked to understand the changing roles of women and of fashion in British society.
