‘The X Factor’ UK: Jahmene Douglas joins Union J, James Arthur with record deal
Even though this season of “The X Factor” UK may have been one of the lowest-rated for the show in years, the contestants who were a part of the show all seem to be reaping the rewards in a very major way. Want some of the latest evidence? Just look at the fact that there are now officially four artists from this latest installment who all have record deals with either Sony or Simon Cowell’s own Syco label.
The show’s runner-up in Jahmene Douglas announced this week that he has inked a new deal with Sony, and if he follows the tradition of other past former contestants, the disc will be released at some point around the middle of next year. Personally, we just hope that he does not try and rush the disc out early feeling that his star will fade; this is what Marcus Collins did last year, and what happened as a result was that his disc failed to make much of an impression at all, and the entire ordeal felt like it could have benefited from a little more time in the studio.
Jahmene joins Union J, Ella Henderson, and the show’s winner in Jahmene Douglas in that that they all have contracts now to at least get started on an album. There is no guarantee that all of these will make it to the market, but Jahmene should be able to move discs without a problem. His voice should appeal to older buyers looking for something that combines a little bit of soul and gospel, which makes him different than the more pop-oriented people on this list. James Arthur is almost guaranteed to have a huge career, at least based on some of the early strong sales for his winners’ single “Impossible.”
Do you want to pick up Jahmene’s album already, even though you technically still have to wait for several months? If you want to watch James’ music video for “Impossible,” you can do so over at the link here.
