Ratings: Ashley Hebert’s ‘Bachelorette’ wedding a massive flop
Even though some folks really do enjoy watching “The Bachelor” as well as “The Bachelorette,” this may be the last time that we actually we a wedding special for either show make it on the air. Why? Based on some of the ratings that are coming in now, it’s going to be hard for ABC to justify watching people go down the aisle.
Overall, the wedding special between Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum ended up drawing an anemic 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, a total so bad that it makes this past season of “Bachelor Pad” look like a hit. Was it just the wedding alone that was a problem? Sure, but you also have to attribute some of the problem here with the show to the simple fact that neither Ashley nor J.P. are publicity hounds: they didn’t do a ton of interviews to promote the special, and both live relatively quiet lives away from the spotlight with normal jobs. That is great for them as people, but it’s not so much great for TV.
Elsewhere, the “Survivor: Philippines” finale did fairly well in posting a 3.2 rating, which was up a reasonable amount from the series low set last season with “One World.” The good news here is that the show managed to perform well even though it aired a full hour later than it would have in the spring thanks to an NFL overrun and a last-minute speech from President Barack Obama about the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.
Did you watch the Ashley-and-J.P. wedding special, and if so, do you think that it was worth your time as a viewer?

I missed the airing from South Africa, but set to watch the repeat on E news. The snippets I saw were so great and attractive. I adore this pair to bits. They give old and young some hope at love.

JP & Ashley’s wedding was lovely and sincere. This is the reason her match on the Bachelorette was successful. It was not trashy or artificial or attempts to get TV exposure like Jake Pavelka or Emily Maynard. Maybe the reason that the Bachelor & Bachelorette shows have been losing viewers. Perhaps the timing of the wedding program may have conflicted with shows that regular followers need to watch for continuing events.
