‘Homeland’ season 3 spoilers: Alex Gansa shares early details
At this moment, most fans are still reeling over the end of “Homeland” season 2; so with that in mind, why start looking towards the future already? The simple answer here is merely that we are excited after such a fantastic finale, and it makes us want to know already what is going to come up so many terribly months down the road.
The good news is that we at least have some rather vague answers, as we know now that executive producer Alex Gansa is not necessarily looking to do something on the same scale as the first two seasons. Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly on the subject, here is what he had to say:
“We know roughly what season 3 is. There’s some big muscular moves that we know will happen but there’s a lot to be filled in still.
”I think all of us on the writing staff would rather not do an impending attack that Carrie stops for the third year in a row. Having said that, we haven’t found that narrative engine that’s going to take us through the third season so I have to reserve judgment. We’re looking for something that’s smaller, that is sort of a little more John LeCarre.”
If we were in the business of making assumptions, we would say that much of the third season could potentially revolve around Brody trying to escape his current fate as a man being forced to flee overseas, while Carrie works in America in order to clear his name as a man thought of by everyone (including his own family) as a terrorist and mass murderer. Saul, meanwhile, is suddenly the most powerful person in the CIA thanks solely to him being at sea helping to bury Abu Nazir’s body in the ocean. Hopefully, we are also going to see smaller roles for the Brody family (given how little they will have to do now), and the introduction of some new faces.
