‘Downton Abbey’ season 3: Hugh Bonneville, selected cast chats on ‘Today’
The cast of “Downton Abbey” is still doing just about everything they can to promote season 3 prior to the holidays, and this included this week a brand-new stop featuring many of the cast members (including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter, and many more) on “The Today Show” Thursday morning. This was a pretty entertaining chat for a number of reasons, with the primary one being rather simple: show host Savannah Guthrie is a proclaimed diehard fan of the British import, so there are a few occasions where it looked as though she was about to fall out of her chair. (She did refer to Joanne Froggatt at one point as “Anna.”)
For those Americans wanting to remain surprised, the cast remains very kind as to not give away any major spoilers. They do talk a little bit about the Matthew / Mary wedding potentially coming up soon on the show, and just how popular the series as a whole has become. Carter joked that someone on the street tried to worship his bushy eyebrows, and even Rob-James Collier proclaimed that people were nice to him despite his character being a bit on the evil side.
(Warning: minor spoilers ahead!)
Of course, there is still one complaint that we have here: what’s with all of the buzz surrounding Shirley MacLaine? She is a Hollywood legend, but we feel, just as we did months ago during the British publicity tour, that it is being suggested that she is far more of a player this season than she really is. We won’t say anything about her story, but you will forget that she was around by the midway point of the season.
What do you think about this video? If you want to see what Froggatt had to say about Anna and Bates in another interview with ABC News, you can do so over here.
