‘Arrow’ spoilers: Whose mom are we getting set to meet?

The winter finale of “Arrow” will be airing on The CW on Wednesday night, and we’re now getting the opportunity to find out some more scoop about someone who we will be meeting much later on in the superhero drama’s first season.

According to a report from SpoilerTV, producers behind the show are currently casting the role of Dinah, who is Lance’s ex-wife as well as Laurel’s mother. She is currently slated to make her debut in the 16th episode of the season, and will recur in the two installments following this one. (Warning: possible spoilers ahead!)

It will be interesting to see whether or not the show follows the story of the DC Comics series with this one. In it, Dinah Drake Lance was actually the original Black Canary, and the role was eventually passed down to her daughter Dinah Laurel Lance. The show has followed the comics somewhat, but has also been unafraid to take some liberties along the way. After all, we have yet to really see any hint that Laurel will even become the Black Canary this season, though it is all but assumed that it will happen at some point by the end of this season (which thus gives Oliver Queen a different sort of ally he can work with. Thus far, Diggle has been the only person who has stood by him at his side, especially as we watched Helena / The Huntress turn back towards even despite the time she spent with the man otherwise known as “The Hood.”
