‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 6, episode 10 review: 50 shades of Sheldon
“The Big Bang Theory” Thursday night was in many ways all about relationships, and we saw a few rather interesting ones develop between some of the characters. We had Howard finally finding some sort of common ground with Bernadette’s father, and we also had quite possibly one of the strangest storylines involving Sheldon and Amy that we have seen ever since the beginning of the show.
From the standpoint of Amy, it made perfect sense: she came down with an illness, and when she realized that Sheldon was taking care of her using some very intimate methods (such as bathing her), she prolonged being sick longer than she really was. When Sheldon did find out about it, he then decided to discipline her … by spanking her. This may have been the best moment of Amy’s life, and we have a feeling that we are going to be seeing her “deserve punishment” a good bit more often from her in the future. (On a different note, did anyone else think this was a little over-the-top, even for Sheldon?)
The Howard storyline played out just as you would expect, as his planned “fishing trip” with Mike ended up going completely awry thanks to the fact that neither one of them wanted to go; however, they found something to talk about courtesy of how their wives tried to force them into it.
The one part of this episode episode that felt even stranger than the spanking was how Leonard was effectively a ghost for just about all of it, and the same goes for Raj. It was nice to see the focus put elsewhere for a change, even though we have to admit to missing them in action.

I thought the spanking scene was funny, mainly because Sheldon fell back on the upbringing by his mother when it came to dealing with Amy’s “deception.” Sheldon does not think about relationships as a normal adult man, and so of course, he did not see the spanking as a sexual thing. After all, his mom prays for strength not to “cold-cock him with her Bible,” because he can be so maddening and obtuse. As for Raj – I still think he is going to have to take on his parents, who want him to be with an Indian woman – instead of someone different. The two Indian women they have tried to get him together with – Lalita in Season 1 and Lakshmi in Season 5, didn’t work out very well.

Normally Sheldon would use Nuerolinguistics to change Amy’s behavior instead of punishing her. However, his choice to spank Amy is an expression of his feelings for her shown as only Sheldon can show emotions, by way of an extreme detour. Otherwise a normal romatic relationship. This keeps us with kinky Sheldon. Obviously Sheldon’s mind is like a child so some viewers might see his developing some adult cravings as not as endearingly childlike. But we all grow up, no matter how slowly. The writers need to show Raj having a new relationship an episode or so with variously defective or broken women who are all over Raj.
The first one should be a woman he finds trying to commit suicide jumping off the freeway and lands on his car instead, where he takes her to the hospital and trys to explain to the Medical Staff, sames ones who removed the robot arm from Wolowitz.

I thought it was over the top!! I thought the “spanking” cheapened the episode. I thought it was awkward and I out it to be unnecessary. It was too awkward…
