‘The Walking Dead’ season 3 gobbles up Lindsay Lohan; ‘Homeland’ season 2 up
Well, if you are looking for more thing to blame for the mediocre ratings for Lifetime’s “Liz & Dick” TV movie, you can probably say that “The Walking Dead,” even though the two would seem to have very different fanbases, more or less ate it and everything else alive.
Despite coming off the Thanksgiving weekend, and with most shows losing some viewing figures as they progress further along in the season, Sunday night’s new episode of the AMC drama drew once again a staggering 5.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. this is up a full half of a ratings point from the week before, and, to give you further perspective, this put the show in contention to rival “The Big Bang Theory” as the top-rated scripted show (at least when it comes to the figure advertisers care about) on any television network. We should also point out that the 10.4 million viewers are also astounding, and a number that few cable series can ever hope to obtain.
Just to give you an even greater perspective of just how much “The Walking Dead” dominated the cable lineup Sunday, the next-strongest regularly-scheduled new show was “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” with a 1.2, while “Liz & Dick” drew a 1.0. For those of you looking for some other good news, Sunday night’s “Homeland” (which is not so reliant on demos since it has no advertisers, just subscribers) brought in more than 2 million viewers for the second time ever. Not only that, but it almost managed to beat “Dexter” for the first time in this measure.
Finally, those curious may find it interesting that the numbers for “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” despite having Justin Bieber as an interview subject, were so low there is not data available at the moment. Bieber may cause buzz on Twitter, but he is not proving to be much of a ratings draw at all to everyday teenagers.
