‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: First look at Neve Campbell!

“Grey’s Anatomy” season 9 has been building to a number of things so far this year, with one of the biggest ones being the situation regarding Derek’s hand. Is he going to be able to ever operate again? That much is still a mystery, but Callie has already promised Patrick Dempsey’s character that she is going to do everything within her power to make that happen.

In addition to that, we also know now that Derek is going to have quite a support system when he does manage to go under the knife: one of his sisters is turning up for the first time! In the photo above, you can catch a first glimpse at former “Scream” star Neve Campbell, who is playing the previously-unnamed character of Lizzie for at least one episode on the show.

Campbell’s character is the third member of the Shepherd family that we have met on “Grey’s Anatomy” over the years, with the two others being Amelia (who is a part of the “Private Practice” world) and Nancy. The only sibling left to meet is the psychiatrist known as Kathleen, but there is no indication just yet as to if or when she will be turning up. (After all, Shonda Rhimes is surely showing that she has no problem spacing all of these meetings out.)

While Derek will continue to have a story Thursday night, the defining moment when it comes to his surgery is going to be the episode entitled “Run, Baby, Run,” which will air on ABC a little bit later on next month. This will also be when we first see Campbell’s character in action.

Just based on the photo alone, do you think ABC made a pretty inspired casting choice here?
