Criminal Minds season 13 video: Daniel Henney’s arrival & more!
The video below courtesy of CBS is your first extended look at the premiere episode “Wheels Up,” and it is one that throws almost the entirety of the BAU into a desperate state. The majority of the main characters saw themselves in a crazy automobile accident at the end of season 12, and the lives of all of them are in jeopardy. We’re worried about Stephen Walker given that Damon Gupton is no longer a part of the show, but in one way or another, we’re concerned for all of the different characters. After all, this is a series where consequences don’t always come in the form of death.
This sneak peek serves as Daniel Henney’s arrival in an official sense to the show — while he has been a part of the Criminal Minds universe in the past thanks to the Beyond Borders spin-off, this is his chance to move over from the International Response Team over to the Behavior Analysis Unit. He’s got a determination and a skill set that makes him perfect for the job, and he should have pretty instant chemistry with the rest of the cast.
Now, how often are we going to get a chance to see him on the series? It seems like an every-episode thing, given that he is promoted to series regular. (Occasionally we do see actors like Matthew Gray Gubler take breaks, but it seems to be few and far between.) This season allows for us at CarterMatt to understand more of Matt Simmons’ upbringing, what he brings to the table, and how he fits in with certain groups. Beyond Borders spotlighted his lineage well, and set the stage for some really cool stuff that could come his way here.
We are sad to see Gupton go given that we liked the Walker character, but if you’re going to be bringing someone from Beyond Borders over to this show, Simmons is a great fit and someone who will allow for the right energy at the right time. Consider the season 13 premiere the turning of a page, and the chance to see what the updated version of Criminal Minds look like. The series is moving into a new timeslot Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern; with that, let’s hope for some more dark, experimental stories to come out of the woodwork. There is potential to cultivate some more creepy stuff at this time of night than an hour earlier, where there are still some family viewers sticking around.
