Big Brother 19 interview: Allison Grodner on ‘bitter’ jury, BB Comics, finale
In our weekly interview with executive producer Allison Grodner, we got even more of a sense of the jury’s mindset (let’s just say that they’re not happy) while also talking about what goes into making BB Comics a reality and Wednesday’s big send-off to season 19.
CarterMatt – Can you you describe what the process is like of conceptualizing the BB Comics every year for the Veto? It’s become a fun tradition.
Allison Grodner – The creative team here works hard to put this BB tradition together each year and each year they strive to top themselves. It is a blast to brainstorm these “BB Superheroes” using the most iconic moments and memorable traits from each season’s houseguests. Along with the talent and expertise of the competition team and the art department, we hand over the covers to professional comic book artists who bring each one of these crazy characters to life. This year we took everything a step further with The Revengers trailer and look forward to growing this concept in the seasons to come.
From everything that you’ve seen, plus the segment we saw tonight, how would you describe the mood in the jury house right now?
Bitter…I don’t remember the last season where every single juror, with the exception of Cody, was clueless on the way out only to realize the truth about their eviction once in the jury house. Not only are they upset to have been played by those remaining in the BB game, they are very upset with the delusions and the mere presence of Maven.
Is there any part of the finale next week that you, personally, are looking forward to?
The part when Julie says ‘see you next summer!’ LOL. I am actually very intrigued to see how this jury votes and whether it will be about emotion or gameplay. I am also looking forward to seeing the pre-jury houseguests return and share their perspective on the show that they have been able to watch since leaving the BB house. What do they think about the way Paul convinced everyone he was their ally and what do they think about Raven’s puppet master claim?

Paul DOES NOT DESERVE To Win At All- He did nothing game wise when it came to the ACTUAL Game of Big Brother – He was given 3 wks safty then every comp after that was THROWN To Him or his Menion Being a Bully, Liar & and a Vet Does not warrant a win – BIG BROTHER Any other Season with Strong Players (like CODY & Jess) would have chewed him up & Spit him out in the 1st week…

Paul should have never been brought back if they aren’t starting on a even playing field why bother. I’ve been watching BB sense the first season this one was the most disappointing I didn’t watch the show on late night POP I couldn’t stand it. BB is losing their fan base they need some serious changes.

Good to see that the finale is 2 hours long this season. Maybe, just maybe, we will get to hear the PRE-JURY talk about what they watched when they went home. They appear on the finale, only to sit there. The past couple years, Julie barely got to ask them one question. They waste so much time saving the Part 1 and Part 2 competitions for finale night. Instead of the memory show, replace that with these competitions. Those 2 competitions should air prior to finale night, so they can just focus on Part 3, the eviction, the speeches, jury footage, pre-jury thoughts, voting, and AFH during the finale.

First season I ever stopped watching the CBS show completely about halfway through the summer, let alone the abysmal feeds. It’s no small thing to say after 19 seasons this year may have cured my BB addiction for good. So way to alienate the people who have been with you all along, Alison, just to maintain a piddling 1.1 rating in the Nielsen’s.

Worst. Season. Ever.
And Paul winning would prove that beyond all doubt. All the manipulation and gimmicks he got from production, from weeks of safety, to “friendship” bracelets building him an alliance to start the season, to repeated comps he did last year (or hosted on BBOTT)……
Add to that an entire house that rolled over and didn’t play and just threw comp after comp, or played for jury only (good job Matt). When Raven tells Julie she thinks she played a great game and then states it’s because: “she did what Paul asked” and “Threw things to Paul” that’s all you need to know about the game this year.
Worst. Cast. Ever.

BB was nothing but bullying this season, all of them should be ashamed. It ruined Big Brother.

The only thing that could save this season is if Paul gets thrown out at third place or takes only 2nd place with a bitter jury and Josh wins this season’s 500K.
This has been the worst season ever and I cannot believe how ALL of them were just gross behaving and bullies, ALL of them, including Jessica and Cody, including Paul and Christmas and everyone who hopped on board to berate, demean, and isolate and alienate the weekly target.

Gosh I love Alison but man this was literally the WORST WORST WORST season I have ever seen on any reality show. I would be ashamed as a producer of a hit prime time show that she let down pretty much everyone in America with this s**t show of a season. I really wish production would be more creative, be more passionate about the show they are making. Instead we got something that felt very uninspired, lacking and very ugly to watch this season. Bringing Paul back was the worst mistake they made. I’ve talked to so many casual viewers that were so turned off by the whole thing. It was VILE.

I wanted to be evicted from watching this year! Last year Paul was awesome, but he is acting like just because he is here for a 2nd chance he is entitled to win. I hate Josh, Mark, Christmas, Jason, Alex, Cody, Jess, basically everyone but Kevin who took crap from those juvenile idiots all summer. He got no respect from those kids. I just want it over. Don’t care who wins, kinda hope Paul looses again because of his arrogance! No more returning players ever or I will not watch. It always ruins the game. I am sick of James, I hate the b***h that won last year. Where do you find these people at. I agree! You need to be fired for getting the dumbest bunch of house guests ever this year!

Please, Please, no more vets unless it’s an all star season. Let the new contestants play. This season was so hard to watch.

How did you pick this year’s cast? Did you draw names out of barrel? They are, without a doubt, the worse cast in the history of the show. …..and what’s with bringing arrogant Paul back? He had his chance last year. What made you think we would enjoy watching him for another summer. I think it would have been a much better show without him. It’s time CBS replaced you, Allison, and brought a producer in with some fresh ideas.
