How close is Outlander season 4 production from starting?
Anyhow, consider the tweet at the bottom of this article as proof that Outlander season 4 work is already underway in Scotland. You knew that locations were being scouted and that the show was in the midst of the casting process for at least extras; now, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts is overseas starting to prepare for the show filming new episodes. Scotland will be once more the home base for the season, even if the story will navigate Jamie and Claire very far away from the country into a completely new world. Filming with Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan is not meant to begin until early October, but there is a good bit of work that needs to be done before they are even present. You have to prepare the sets, make sure the rest of the cast is taken care of, have the costumes ready, and ensure that everything is perfectly in place so that there’s no lollygagging when filming is actually underway. Pre-production has actually been going on for some time as a result! Getting some of the main executive producers overseas to prepare is just one of the final pieces of the puzzle before the series actually comes on the air.
So why is filming starting so early? Well, it may appear that it is given that season 3 just started airing, but if there is any hope at all for a shorter Droughtlander this year, filming has to start now; the cast has actually been on break from Outlander since June when they wrapped in South Africa, and that’s afforded them a chance to vacation and do some other work in the midst of a busy press tour. Everything is just now starting to cool down in that regard, though there are still a bevy of great interviews and other content that you can read from various corners of the internet. Filming is actually starting right around the right time.
We here at CarterMatt will have some more updates in regards to Outlander season 4 cast arrivals shortly, and hopefully a few behind-the-scenes photos here and there. One of the things that we’d caution you on in advance here, though, is that it’s probably going to be an even more secretive set this time around than it was for season 3, at least until the third season ends. While Diana Gabaldon readers already know plenty about Jamie and Claire’s journey, we feel like Outlander and the cast/crew will want to shield many spoilers for those out there who do not know what’s coming.
