Bachelor in Paradise season 5 premiere date speculation; who should appear?
Alas, it’s hard to provide a concise answer to this question beyond next July; technically, Bachelor in Paradise season 5 hasn’t been officially ordered at ABC. We at CarterMatt do consider it a lock to happen. Through the past month or show, the show has drawn close to a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic across its two different airings in the week. It’s down slightly in both the demo and total viewers from a year ago, but remember that this is summer, and we don’t necessarily think that the press around the DeMario / Corinne situation was good press. It was instead the sort of dark cloud that could have easily doomed the show, given that the allegations were serious; we’re glad that the investigation cleared them, but it wasn’t clear how this would impact the show’s ratings.
While Bachelor in Paradise lags behind The Bachelorette, World of Dance, and America’s Got Talent, it is right there with American Ninja Warrior as one of the strongest reality TV franchises of the summer. We also don’t think that it’s all that huge of an investment for ABC given that you’ve got fame-thirsty contestants and a setting that is largely paid for as promotional consideration for Mexico. It’s also a pretty short production with far less travel than The Bachelor or The Bachelorette; this is without even talking about all of the social-media buzz the show gets. Bachelor in Paradise is probably going to last however long ABC wants it to, provided that it does continue to draw some of the ratings that it’s garnering at the moment.
Odds are, Bachelor in Paradise is also going to forever remain a summer institution for a few different reasons, with one of the primary ones being that the show is extremely popular as a summer show and its setting perfectly suits that. Also, ABC already has programming for Monday nights virtually every other time of the year in between other iterations of this franchise and then also Dancing with the Stars in the fall and the spring. The larger question is who should appear, and we’d argue that many of the participants this summer could easily come back. Beyond that, we wouldn’t be shocked if someone like Eric Bigger from Rachel’s season stops by or if we get to see Ben Zorn again. Kristina Schulman was super-popular this season and could be a candidate, though we also think that she is someone who easily could become The Bachelorette and there are a number of people out there already who seem to want to see her in that role.
What about Peter Kraus? Well, CarterMatt doesn’t really see that happening. He’s more likely to be the next Bachelor.
