Celebrity Big Brother USA coming this winter, per Julie Chen announcement
Could this be a heck of a lot of fun? Absolutely, but we also feel like this could be a total disaster. This looks like it could be the replacement for Big Brother: Over the Top, except that this time it will air on CBS proper and will hopefully be somewhat similar to what’s happening with the American version of the game. What we really don’t want to see are the rules for the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother brought over here, since we had something similar back in Big Brother season 1 and things have clearly evolved since then.
We know that CBS has toyed around with doing a celebrity version of Survivor for some time, but we were admittedly rather shocked about this announcement. What celebrities would want to willingly go into this house? We imagine that it’ll be a shorter game, and probably have a smaller group of houseguests. Yet, we don’t really care since there’s a long wait before Big Brother Canada starts back and if you are a Big Brother junkie like we are, then we suspect you want as many incarnations of the show that you can get. Let’s just hope that these aren’t the same celebrities we’ve seen on so many other reality shows, including Debbie Gibson and Stephen Baldwin. Is it too early to throw American Ninja Warrior co-host and noted Big Brother fan Matt Iseman out there? Sure, we know he’s with another network … but still.
There are obviously a ton of questions we still have, including if Julie will host it and if it will be produced by Allison Grodner and the same team as the flagship show. Rest assured, we’re going to ask the question in our weekly CarterMatt interview with Grodner for tomorrow … provided that she’s able to say anything given that things are obviously still early.
We do have to say that so far as new implementations of the game go, this could be really fun provided we get the right cast and we still get live feeds. We’re not going to miss Over the Top, and this may have us actually excited to have Big Brother during the hiatus months between this finale and the Canadian version of the show.
Update: More info!
We have learned that it will feature live feeds and it will also be structured the same as the US version rather than adopting the UK celebrity format.
