Chicago Fire season 6 poster features both Jesse Spencer, Taylor Kinney
The new poster below comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, and it features Kinney and Spencer (who play Casey and Severide, respectively) alongside three other longtime favorites: Kara Killmer (Brett), Monica Raymund (Dawson), and Eamonn Walker (Boden). These are roughly the same people featured in most of the promotional material from last season, and it’s easy to understand why NBC would want to highlight them again here now. These are some of the main stars of the show, and they’re characters we’ve come to care about deeply over time.
Now, does this poster mean anything in terms of whether or not any of these people are going to survive the brutal cliffhanger at the end of season 4? Well, this is where we come bearing some rather unfortunate news. Just because NBC is marketing the show with Casey and Severide doesn’t mean that both characters will be around in the long-term. A great example of that is back when Leslie Shay was killed off. Lauren German was still featured in much of the promotional material for the show, but in the end was taken out after her character was killed. This could just be a way to mask what is coming, even if we don’t want that to be the case.
The person to be the most worried about at the moment of the five is clearly Casey, who along with Mouch both looked as though they were going to be in losing their lives in the fire. Casey had even taken off his helmet in order to relay a message as to how much he loved Dawson. When it comes to raising the stakes of this series, it goes without saying that this was an effective cliffhanger. When you think for a moment about how the main focus of this series is supposedly around the risk that some of these firefighters take, it makes some sense to show them in a near-death situation to close things out. In order for the series to feel realistic, not everyone can survive every little terrible thing that happens to them.
Beyond what happens with the cliffhanger, the story will pick up and there will be some other challenges that we end up seeing. For example, we know that you’re going to see one of Brett’s friends from her childhood turn up in Chicago; meanwhile, all signs point to her relationship with Antonio coming back into the picture and being a big factor in the overall story. Dawson’s father is still going to be a big part of the story, and we figure that Boden will find himself once more at the center of firehouse politics.
Of course, NBC isn’t going to share much in the way of Casey – Severide scoop with the futures of Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney in doubt.
