The Flash season 4 spoilers: Iris, Caitlin friendship to be explored

Flash season 4

When The Flash season 4 gets going, you’re going to see Iris West in a rough place, and understandably so. Barry Allen is stuck in the speed force! The good news for her is that you can’t quite have The Flash without Barry, so obviously he is going to be finding a way to come back into the world. We’re very much excited to see more of that, but the show is about more than one character. It’s an ensemble, and in season 4 a big part of what makes the show so interesting is playing around with different character dynamics that you have not explored before.

One of the such dynamics explored could be that of Caitlin and Iris, which is great given that female/female friendship is not something explored all that often on the show. Given that this is a male-led show with a male-heavy cast, that shouldn’t come as a surprise, but there is something that is very exciting about seeing what happens when you do get these two characters in the same room together doing to do more things separate from the other characters. Odds are that you’ve heard a little bit about the upcoming “Girls’ Night Out” episode already that is featuring Emily Bett Rickards coming over from Arrow; meanwhile, you’ve also got some information now on the evolution of the Caitlin / Iris friendship. Here is what Candice Patton had to say on that subject to Entertainment Weekly:

“We’re definitely going to see Iris’ relationship with Caitlin especially developed this season, which we haven’t seen before, which will be really nice for fans … Fans have been wanting to see more female dynamic on the show, and there will definitely be that. They’re working closely together. Caitlin has been through so much herself in relationships, and I think if anyone can offer advice, it would be her, so she’s there quite often to give Iris advice on her relationship with Barry and how to move forward.”

We do still wonder just what form of Caitlin we’re going to see when the show does return this fall, given the one we last saw was one part Killer Frost, one part the old version of the character we knew for the first couple of seasons. Is it really possible at this point to have one without the other? This is one of the things that the series needs to figure out. It also could put Caitlin’s relationship with Iris and some of the other characters in an interesting spot, given that we are talking about someone here who has a history of turning evil. While Team Flash is a trusting bunch, does that trust have some limits? This is something that should be explored more.
