The Sinner episode 5 spoilers: Who is the body in the woods?

Sinner episode 5

The Sinner episode 5 may eventually offer up a few answers when it comes to the show’s central mystery, but will it raise new questions? All early evidence seems to suggest that.

Let’s start things off by sharing the official synopsis via USA, mostly because it delivers for you a tease that is simple, but also effective.

The Sinner episode 5 synopsis – “The discovery of a body in the woods leads to more questions for everyone.”

Is it too late to introduce a mystery like this in the season? We would understand those who were to wonder that given that we’re at the halfway point and therefore, there is only so much story left to go. Nonetheless, we like that this show is holding nothing back when it comes to delivering twists and trying to keep viewers (at least those unfamiliar with the source material) guessing for a little bit longer.

Tonight’s episode did not offer up too many clues as to who the mysterious body is. What we know is that they’re seemingly connected to Cora’s case given her frequent visions of the school bus during her memory-therapy appointments. We also know that Ambrose is starting to get obsessed with the case and his search for answers, to the point that he may be pulled off of it. Is he desperate to prove she is innocent? It may be early to argue that, but he is certainly intent to show that there is more going on her and her fragile state of mind is due to some powerful external factor — whether it be the masked man or something else.

With a show like this, what does matter the most is what comes in the finale more so than what comes every step of the way — The Sinner has done a great job laying the groundwork, but it also needs to stick the landing when it comes to all of the reveals in the end. True Detective and The Night Of are great comparisons when it comes to how to end a show and potentially how to stumble. In the case of the latter, we got something that was both poignant but also ambiguous enough to spark some debate. However, the end of True Detective felt almost intentionally abstract, and that the show was trying too hard to tell a story that wasn’t tangible enough in the end. It didn’t keep most of the momentum that it had over the course of its first season. (Let’s not even discuss True Detective season 2, given that we don’t want to depress ourselves too much here.)
