The Flash season 4 spoilers: Longmire’s Katee Sackhoff playing Amunet Black
Entertainment Weekly confirms today the alter ego of the actress on the show — Black is otherwise known by the name Blacksmith, known for being “a steely and badass boss of an underground black market for supervillains. Amunet uses every means possible, including the long list of metahumans under her thumb, to ensure her illicit enterprise thrives.” In the comics, Black has some ties with the famed Rogues, so we’ll be interested in seeing if she has those same ties in the TV series, as well. One of the biggest things to remember here is that there is such a recurring roster of villains that any of them could turn up at any time.
Sackhoff is going to recur, meaning that she’ll be around for more than one episode starting with episode 5, entitled “Girls Night Out.” This episode is also going to feature a crossover with Arrow, as Emily Bett Rickards will be bringing over Felicity Smoak for the hour. She’s probably crossed over with The Flash more than any other actor, which makes sense given her brief relationship / friendship with Barry Allen. Plus, she fills a similar role on Team Arrow to what Cisco did on Team Flash, at least before the rise of his Vibe powers.
Katee is coming off of six seasons of playing Vic on Longmire, which started its run on A&E before heading over to Netflix. While this is one of our favorite shows, we recognize that she is much more well-known within the sci-fi community and this part seems to be perfect for her. We know that she’s more than capable of playing interesting, complex villains, and this show should offer her an opportunity to do that for however long she lasts.
We know that Black is not the Big Bad for the entire season, as that title instead is going to Clifford DeVoe a.k.a. the Thinker. The goal for season 4 seems to be to bring back a little more of the lighthearted tone and sense of adventure that was here in season 1 of the show. In between Zoom killing Barry’s father and Savitar being a powerful deadly version of Barry himself, things have gotten a little bit dark in the world of The Flash as of late. Mind you that we’re not at Arrow levels or anything just yet, but it’s still pretty serious stuff.
Remember that there is also a larger crossover between Arrow and The Flash, coupled with many of the other DC superhero shows that are out there, airing on The CW a little bit later in the year.
