Aidan Turner sees Poldark season 5 as final season
As a part of a new recent interview with WWD, the actor does his part to explain how he feels about the show’s longevity, and when the story could start to run out of steam a little bit for him:
“I think we run out of things to do after series 5, I think that would be our last one. Four was green-lit, five hasn’t been yet, and it wouldn’t be fair of me to green light it, but it’s probably looking like it may happen.”
So far, the first half roughly of the Winston Graham book series has been covered through the series, which would mean that there are two more seasons that would cover all of the rest. We’re sure that there would be significant plot points left out through this adaptation, but that’s almost expected given that as the series goes on, there are surely more stories and people brought in who just haven’t been that important onscreen. The show already has some significant challenges when it comes to handling some of the time jumps coming, including one of more than ten years. If writer Debbie Horsfield navigates that many of their child actors are going to have to be recast, and the series will feel very different from the one that it was for the first few years of it being on the air. You have to hope that viewers would be on board for that; the only other way around it is significantly altering the source material to push events to a place where Ross Poldark is still a little bit younger.
Could there be six seasons in theory?
Probably, but we understand that there is no need to force the issue there. Instead, there may just be something of merit in having the show run for as long as the cast and crew want to be there, and then allow everyone to move on. If Turner feels like season 5 tells the complete story of the show and the ratings are still present and strong, it makes sense to allow that to be the series’ end and allow everyone to start to move on to other things in the world.
Remember that new episodes of Poldark this season are unfortunately coming to an end. The finale airs this Sunday, and in that one Ross and Demelza both have some key decisions to make as their lives, and their marriage, are starting to crumble. They are the ones with the power to save things, but they have to find that willingness to communicate and open up their hearts once more.
