Elementary season 6 spoilers: Dexter alum Desmond Harrington aboard

Elementary season 6

When Elementary season 6 premieres on CBS in the new year, Desmond Harrington of Dexter fame will be a key part of the equation!

Sources confirm that Harrington is going to be a series regular for the upcoming batch of episodes as Michael, a man with deep ties to Sherlock Holmes and with his own history of addiction. He is a recovering addict who knows Sherlock from N.A. meetings, but should be around for so much more than that. In the past, he looked towards him and some of his words as an inspiration to get clean and sober. When Sherlock finds himself in a desperate position this coming season (remember his condition at the end of this past season), Michael is going to be there for him in a time of need.

Given that Sherlock is not someone who’s had an abundance of friends over the course of the series’ run, there could be significant value in him having someone around now who cares about him.

So what about Joan Watson? Obviously, she is the person who most people want around on the series, and for good reason given that she’s been Sherlock’s confidante and support since the start of the series. She’s become so much more than just a caretaker, but their relationship isn’t in the best place at the moment.

We understand the sentiment of the people out there who are freaking out about Watson, but we would remind many of these of this: Without Watson, there is no Sherlock, and without Sherlock, there is no Watson. While that may sound like some weird philosophy mumbo-jumbo, it’s still true. This dynamic is a big part of the show’s success, and we don’t see it going anywhere in the near future.

We are still very much stoked to see what Harrington brings to the series.

What else do we expect to see?

The hope is that with the show adopting a 13-episode format for season 6, there will be some attempts to tell more of a contained arc mixed in with some of the individual cases. We don’t think Elementary should ever abandon the procedural format, but it would be interesting to see them try something more in the vein of a Burn Notice, where they start and end every episode spending a little bit of time looking at a larger case.

Consider this now the part of the article where we routinely remind the Elementary writers that they either need to bring Natalie Dormer back or recast the role of Moriarty with someone who is actually going to be more available.

Moving on … you are going to be waiting for a long time still to see when Elementary will return, but for the time being, we’d say that March 2018 is a strong bet for a premiere. If it starts there (potentially with a two-hour premiere), it will be able to air the entirety of its episodes and still be done by the end of May sweeps.
