Poldark season 3 ratings surge; Love Island stays solid

Poldark season 3 ratings

For those looking for the latest Poldark season 3 ratings, we come bearing news — and it is even better news than usual!

Per Telly Mix, Sunday night’s excellent installment of the BBC series (which contained probably our saddest character-death moment in a rather long time) drew in total 5.4 million viewers. This is the highest viewer total of the season since the first episode drew 5.5 million, and that one had the luxury of being the first episode to air following a lengthy hiatus.

One of the bigger reasons for the ratings bump for the show is likely less competition elsewhere, as it was a quiet night over on ITV and another BBC series in Countryfile also posted more viewers. It won the night with a grand total of 6.3 million viewers, an impressive number that further reminds us that there are few things more beloved than nature and simplicity.

Our anticipation at the moment is that Poldark should stay above 5 million for the remainder of the season, especially since there is (insert sad face here) only two more installments left. It really does feel like the new season just started a week or two, and our brain is probably used to getting ten episodes given that this is how many episodes that there were during the second season. This is mostly credit to the folks behind the scenes at the show, who have created something so fantastic that it feels as though it just blows by.

Are we being super selfish here with our request/demand for more Poldark? Pretty much so, given the fact that the second season aired in the fall, and we’re getting a shorter hiatus than usual as a result of that alone.

Want some other ratings news?

We’re not really covering any other British programming at the moment, but Love Island continues to draw a lot of attention overseas with 2.1 million viewers. It’s huge on Twitter, and while we in America technically have something similar in Bachelor in Paradisewe do still wonder if there is going to be some sort of American version coming up in the future. It’s a show that could be made on the cheap, and if there’s one thing that we do know that many American television networks are looking to do at this point in time, it’s save money in however creative a way that they can. The problem is that outside of the Bachelor franchise, none of these other romance-based series have drawn big ratings.
