Queen of the South season 2 episode 8 spoilers: Teresa in Chicago

Queen of the South season 2 episode 8

On Queen of the South season 2 episode 8, we’re going to see Teresa in a reasonably unfamiliar territory: The Windy City. Chicago is the new destination, and when you consider that USA and NBC are owned by the same parent company, there’s a secret desire somewhere in our brain to see some sort of epic Chciago PD – Queen of the South crossover. Granted, that probably wouldn’t be good news for Teresa … there aren’t many people in the One Chicago universe that she’s actually qualified to work with without them calling her in.

As you can get a sense of (at least to a certain extent) in the short synopsis below, there is a specific reason for the out-of-town visit.

Queen of the South season 2 episode 8 synopsis – “Camila sends Teresa and her crew to Chicago to secure a meeting with an elusive drug distributor.”

Hey, when you’re desperate enough for something to happen, you’re willing to travel for it. That is the position that Teresa finds herself in, and that’s hopefully what she will resolve in this episode. If there are problems, let’s just say that the final episodes of season 2 will leave her in one of the worst positions that she’s been in for the entire series. This, of course, leads to the dichotomy that so many of us feel as viewers of this show (or really many others) — you want to root for the lead to make it through, but there’s no denying that high stakes and great drama tend to lead to great entertainment.

Clearly, USA is happy with whatever they are bringing to the table, given that they’re not so willing to share details as to what’s coming in advance.

Here’s your ratings update

We do this every week in this space as we look for Queen of the South to get a season 3, and every little thing that we’ve got for you today is a further cause for optimism. Last week’s episode generated a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, even with the show’s average this season, and just over 1.1 million viewers (almost even with last week). While both of these numbers are down versus season 1, it’s by less than 10%. Our longtime ratings philosophy tends to be that so long as you weren’t an extreme bubble show the season before, dropping less than 10% year-to-year in key measurements almost guarantees that you will come back. There are so many network shows out there that would beg for these sort of retention rates in 2017.

We do think that one of the reasons why Queen of the South is able to hold so many viewers week to week is simply because of its unique combinations of attributes. Find another drug-based crime drama with a strong female lead, and a diverse cast airing on basic cable. It’s pretty slim pickings there — that’s not great for the state of TV, but it’s something that this show does benefit from.
