Outlander season 3 and a different sort of San Diego Comic-Con panel
In addition to the official panel (read more here) taking place on Friday, July 21, there is another Comic-Con event that is a celebration of the show, the books, and so much more put on by many key players within the show fandom. It’s entitled Outlandish Confabulation: An Outlander Fan Panel, and it is taking place on Saturday, July 22 at noon Pacific at the Neil Morgan Auditorium inside the San Diego Central Library. If you’ve been to the convention before, it’s basically up Park St. from the Hilton Bayfront, one of the biggest hotels and supporters of the convention. (It’s also on the other side of Petco Park, otherwise known as home of our beloved but consistently-not-good San Diego Padres.)
Here’s how the official program from SDCC describes the event if you’re curious in attending:
“Ginger Wiseman (The Outlander Podcast), Summer Reynolds (The Outlander Podcast), Mandy Tidwell (Great Scot Blog), and Sarah Ksiazek (Outlander TV News) join Outlander fans for a no-holds-barred discussion of their favorite characters, storylines, and theories. Main books, bulges, TV seasons: It’s all fair game.”
This panel should be a great opportunity to react to whatever is announced as the main panel for the show, and also dive into more of the meta of the story. If you love both the books and the show — or are familiar with some of the featured parties — this may be a fun panel to attend. We figure that many of you who read our pieces are diehard fans of the show, and may be aware that this is happening already.
Pro tip: If you want to walk the Comic-Con floor, do that briefly before the panel. The last thing you want to try to do is wander around the show floor in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. Think tons of people and/or a sea of sweat.
Here’s the bummer news
Well, it’s at least the bummer news for us — it doesn’t look as though we’re going to be in San Diego this year, as some work commitments are calling us elsewhere. For some sort of terrible reason, we seem to have this habit of being at the convention the years that the show was not there. (Take, for example, being there for a few days last year.) We’ll still have our finger on the pulse on what’s going on, but alas we won’t be alternating our time between watching panels and trying to but up our weight’s worth in Pop figurines.
Who knows? Maybe this will change between now and the start of the convention, but that’s where things stand right now. If we don’t turn up, hopefully everyone who does has a great time this year!
