Outlander season 3: Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe confirmed for SDCC
Today, Starz announced that gracing their official San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 21 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time will be the likes of Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Sophie Skelton, Caitriona Balfe, and Richard Rankin to go along with executive producers Ronald D. Moore and Matthew B. Roberts. Series author Diana Gabaldon will also be present.
While it’s been assumed for some time on social media that Heughan and Balfe would be attending the convention (they’ve made many playful remarks suggesting such), this is the first time that it’s been 100% confirmed.
This panel will be taking place at Ballroom 20, which is one of the larger rooms that Comic-Con has to offer beyond the cavernous Hall H. (There’s been some playful ribbing between Sam and Graham McTavish, now on Preacher, about the panel locations.) One of the big surprises is that Jenna Dewan-Tatum of Supergirl and World of Dance fame will serve as the moderator; typically, Comic-Con moderators do tend to be television journalists or Chris Hardwick appearing in a million different places at once.
What about an autograph signing?
This will be taking place, as well! Starz announced via the tweet below that the autograph signing will be happening the following day (July 22) at Booth #4029. You can stop by the booth to learn more, but be prepared for a mass swarm of people. This is Comic-Con, after all, and this is the sort of place where finding a spot without a crowd is not an easy thing to do. For everyone who loves these performers, this should be a good opportunity to meet them and make a once-in-a-lifetime memory. Don’t get us wrong — autographs sometimes can be awesome. We’re just the sort of person who enjoys experiences and having that to look back on more so than anything else.
What will be announced there?
For the time being, the jury is still out! There could be a new trailer, or there could be a new behind-the-scenes featurette. If the official season 3 premiere date is not unveiled just yet for the show, we imagine that it would be at the panel. There’s obviously a lot of great stuff that the panel could address, given that this is the first time that there has been a discussion of this variety since filming wrapped recently in South Africa. Everyone’s now in the process of getting in a little bit of time off, though we know that there are some other projects that the cast are going to be working on during the hiatus.
For everyone who attends Comic-Con this weekend, we imagine that it’ll make for a fun time! Our suggestion if you want to survey the convention floor is to get there earlier in the morning rather than in the afternoon: There are a ton of people who party, and with that, there are a ton of people who sleep in.
