Chicago Fire season 6 spoilers: Dawson’s father will return

Dawson's father

While it may be difficult to get too many in-depth answers on Chicago Fire season 6 right now, we can offer you up this: Dawson’s father will be back.

This news was confirmed in a recent post on Twitter from showrunner Derek Haas, who made it clear that he will return for both the first episode of the season and presumably more. The last you saw him, he was drinking heavily and lamenting the end of his marriage and current state of his life without any money. Now, per Haas, he’s “trying to get his life back together.”

Also, we hope that in the process of that the man does have plenty of support. We imagine that this is going to be difficult given that there are so many different temptations out there, but Dawson is one of the most caring, supportive people around to those close to her.

The flip side of that is that there was some tension between Dawson’s dad and Casey at the end of season 5, mostly because it was so difficult having him around the house. Provided that Casey survives the deadly scene at the end of “My Miracle,” it will be interesting to see if that persists. We would hope that after going through something like this, everyone would have more perspective — though to be honest, Casey’s certainly went through his fair share of conflicts before.

Sadly, no holiday episodes this year

One other reminder from Haas is that thanks to Chicago Fire moving to Thursday nights and NBC’s Thursday Night Football programming in the months of November and December, there will not be a Christmas or a Thanksgiving episode. Sometimes, that just happens and there’s nothing that the writers can do about it. Personally, we’d love to see maybe a Valentine’s Day or a Halloween episode this year, just to get a little bit of seasonality into the show. Plus, one of the really great things about Chicago Fire is that you are afforded the luxury of having so many seasons to film in, whether it be the summer, the fall, the winter, or even the start of the spring. There are many different ways to showcase the passage of time.

There is something nostalgic about holiday episodes, but we’ll settle for other great stories — after all, we don’t have much of a choice with the current structure of the schedule.

One more thing to remember

Filming for season 6 is going to be starting up before too much longer, and maybe at that point there will be even more in the way of concrete scoop on the show.
