America’s Got Talent: Evie Clair closes show with ‘Arms’ performance
Even before she started singing, it was clear that Evie was going to deliver something that was powerful. Her appearance came after a montage about people loving their fathers. Her father was diagnosed with cancer, but continued to work in order to support his family as long as possible. He was there to be strong for her, and she performed a cover of the Christina Perri hit “Arms,” a song that she does often sing to him to make him feel better after a long day. This was no doubt an emotional story, but more so than that, this was a very good performance. It’s a talent competition at the end of the day, and when it comes to that Clair delivered thoroughly. Even the break in her voice was perfect for the song that she was doing.
Odds are, there are probably only a few dry eyes out there after watching this. This is the first time this season that AGT ended with a performance that wasn’t the Golden Buzzer, but when you think about, they really didn’t need one hear. The moment spoke for itself, and it feels almost like a given that Evie is going to make it through to the net round.
Overall, we do think that the show probably does promote singers a little too heavily at the end of their episodes more than any other acts, but we get it given that singing is something that is so universal and it’s so easy to become attached to these sort of emotional performances and stories. Now, the next challenge is seeing what happens moving into the next round. She will have to find a way to show off different parts of her voice and the fuller extent of what she can do. If she does achieve that, then it’s a slam dunk that she makes it very far into the season.
