Criminal Minds season 13 spoilers: Daniel Henney from Beyond Borders joins
There is no more reason to wonder whether or not Criminal Minds would bring in a new actor following the exit of Damon Gupton. Daniel Henney is now officially on board and we couldn’t be happier about him joining this cast!
As first reported by Deadline, Henney is going to become a series regular on the flagship show after two years on the now-canceled Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. He will reprise his role as one-time International Response Team member Matt Simmons; maybe he’s still affiliated with the IRT, but we foresee a change in job title in his future given that he is moving over from that show over to this new home on CBS. He should prove to be both very effective and very much versatile in it, given that we know that he can bring us crazy action sequences, moments of incredible drama, and also some fun witty banter to boot. The story where he touched on his family history on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 2 was a highlight for us, and one of the most emotional moments that we had on that show. We’re excited to see what Simmons brings to the table as the character, and Henney as an actor.
Moving Henney over is a way for the franchise to continue to honor the work that he did over on the spin-off, while also bringing a new dimension to the main series. Hopefully, he’ll become immersed with the cast before long; it certainly helps that he has worked with them in the past. Most recently, he was a part of the Spencer Reid arc after Matthew Gray Gubler’s character found himself detained in Mexico.
Now, the unfortunate wait begins for Criminal Minds season 13 to start filming! Everyone who is going to be a part of the new season has signed a deal, and the writers are hard at work now coming up with compelling new stories (probably mixed with a dark edge) for viewers to enjoy. As we’ve said before here at CarterMatt – Criminal Minds is one of those great TV comfort foods where you can dive in at any point, in any season and get a great story with familiar faces. The show is set to premiere on CBS this September, and we’ll of course have further updates along the way.
For now, are you glad to see Henney come over to Beyond Borders, and do you think that this could lead the way to some more characters appearing in the future from that show? Be sure to share below!
