Last Week Tonight with John Oliver talks Theresa May, Lord Buckethead

Theresa MayOf course, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver started things up on Sunday with a discussion of James Comey. After all, why would it not want to take on everything that happened there?

Well, Oliver tore in to Donald Trump over his reactions to Comey’s testimony, but one of his most fantastic moments came a little bit later when he completely eviscerated Paul Ryan over his “he’s new to this” argument that he made after the fact. (Funny story: When we first saw this moment, we did feel like this was going to make it onto Oliver’s show.)

Despite how great Oliver is at covering the Presidency with a sharp with and some surprising barbs, let’s face it: He brought it to another level when it came to discussing the recent UK election and Theresa May’s struggles to get more voters on her side. This segment contained one of the funniest moments in the history of Last Week Tonight, when Oliver did his best to explain the number of votes that came in for Lord Buckethead.

From here, Oliver did his part in order to further describe some of the difficulties that the entire Brexit deal is bringing to everyone in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and so many other places. He did that especially through the lens of showing a number of silly metaphors brought on by major news networks. (Personally, we enjoyed the one about the dog first and foremost.)

Somehow, everything when it comes to Brexit ultimately did come back to Lord Buckethead, who somehow managed to provide some of the best commentary on the entire situation. He helped to sum up how messy all of this is — Brexit is enormously complicated, and it’s going to be hard for anyone to be able to turn this around.

The only thing that made this whole segment, one of the best of the entire year, was an appearance at the very end by Buckethead himself! He didn’t have to say anything; instead, you could all just bask for a moment in his greatness as the end credits rolled.
