This Is Us season 2 will provide answers to Jack’s death
Specifically, the first little tease towards what happened to Milo Ventimiglia’s character is something that will be presented fairly early on during the show. While at a For Your Consideration panel Wednesday night promoting the show’s Emmy chances, show creator Dan Fogelman made it clear (per Entertainment Weekly) that “the first episode of the season holds not all the answers but a huge piece of the puzzle.” The majority of the answers should come over the course of season 2, but also raise new questions in the process.
Fogelman seems somewhat surprised that the reaction to Jack’s death has been as big as it’s been, but you can easily make the same argument about the majority of the show. This was a series created mostly out of heart and a desire to tell real, gripping family stories. It was very much hard to know that it would eventually evolve into becoming this sweeping sensation and one of the most-popular shows on network TV.
One of the other topics that arose from the discussion was that of a possible Kate – Toby wedding; while Chrissy Metz is clearly excited about the prospect, it’s not something that the show needs to hurry along:
“I sort of don’t want to rush in — I think that Toby and Kate have a long way to go to really get to know each other, and to know themselves … They don’t just want to step into a marriage.”
The thing to remember with this show at the moment is that there already is a season 3 renewal out there; with that, there is no immediate need to rush into anything when it comes to the story. The show can take a little bit more time providing answers, and allow much of it to come about organically. While it is true that the entire show originated with a pretty big twist regarding Jack and Rebecca being in a different timeline, this isn’t really a show about twists. It’s about people, and understanding what makes all of us tick.
