America’s Got Talent ratings stay fairly steady; iZombie rises; World of Dance falls

Talent ratings

Two weeks into its summer season, and the America’s Got Talent ratings continue to be very strong. Even with a new host in Tyra Banks, nothing is fundamentally changing.

Tuesday night’s new episode of the show ended up generating a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is better than almost anything that’s been on network TV the past few months. It’s also fairly close to even with the premiere last week. There isn’t really that much of a reason to worry about its numbers slipping over the season, since this is mostly about the acts and the big moments there more so than it is the judges, the host, or anything else. The show needs to be abreast as to excess product placement (that does happen from time to time), but otherwise they do mostly happen to be smooth sailing.

As for the remainder of the lineup from Tuesday that is worth noting now…

World of Dance declines – We predicted last week that the Jennifer Lopez dance competition would be lucky to generate a 2.0 rating in its second week, and that proved to be accurate. The latest episode generated in total a 1.9, down a good 20% from the premiere episode. Next week, based on the content of what we saw in the episode and the heavy reliance on people with reality TV experience already, we anticipate that the number is going to fall further to around a 1.7 or 1.6.

iZombie gets some good news – How about this for a little bit of a twist? The Rose McIver series ended up getting in total a 0.4, which is a nice increase from the week before. Given that the show is in the summer and has no real lead-in whatsoever, you do have to take whatever will come its way. It’s coming back for another season, so in that sense there’s not all that much to worry about here.

Tonight, we’re once again staring at a fairly quiet night of programming where there’s not all that much going on beyond MasterChef and The F Word with Gordon Ramsay on Fox. Wednesdays will pick up further, but not until a little later in the summer.
