Gotham season 3 finale: Enter Cyrus Gold; is Morena Baccarin leaving?

Who diedGiven tonight was the Gotham season 3 finale, it did make a certain degree of sense that there would be some characters who didn’t make it out of the fray alive.

So who died? The most notable name right away was none other than Butch, who was shot in the head by Barbara Kean in the midst of her angry revenge tour of hers over some long-running division that first stemmed from Barbara’s thirst for power. Barbara and Tabitha eventually came to face to face for a showdown, one that turned violent quickly once Tabitha learned that her fellow Siren had killed her love. This had to be one of the most violent battles we’ve witnessed over the past few seasons, and it ended in a pretty intense, crazy way: Barbara was electrocuted, and with that, seemingly taken out of the equation once and for all.

These two deaths could alter the entire course of the show … provided that they stick. One of the big things that you do need to remember with this show is that there are so many reasons for anyone to come back from the dead. Speaking of that … we learned that Butch’s real name is Cyrus Gold! That, dear friends, is a good sign that he will someday become Solomon Grundy, the famed Batman villain. There were clues for many weeks that this was coming, and it was nice to have that confirmed.

As for Barbara, you can argue that maybe she is alive and becoming Harley Quinn; we were promised something of the character in the finale, and there wasn’t much here.

Say goodbye

Is this the end for Morena Baccarin on the show? Lee Thompkins found herself in the midst of grave danger thanks to the Tetch virus, but as she and Jim Gordon found herself on the other side, she realized that this was not where she wanted to be.

There were also signs that Baccarin was leaving the show many months ago, as she was starting to look towards other projects.

Some other odds and ends

Penguin is alive! Also, he’s finally realized that Poison Ivy is an ally, and he’s also getting started the famed Iceberg Lounge. About time, right? Also, this episode brought you closer to the birth of Catwoman than ever before, and also something akin to a Batman origin as Bruce decided to finally start fighting bad guys in a costume.
