Doctor Who season 10 episode 9 spoilers: The Queen – Mars mystery

Doctor Who season 10 episode 9 is airing on BBC One next week, and with that episode, you will have a chance to see an episode that is perfectly strange — and with that, perfectly within the mold of the show. “Time and space” are often used hand in hand on this show for a reason, and going into this next episode, it will serve as a means to showcase exactly what is going on when it comes to Mars and Victorian England colliding in some interesting, albeit unexpected, ways. The Doctor and Bill will get a chance to experience a very different world, one stuffed full of surprises.

Doctor Who season 10 episode 9 synopsis – “‘God save the Queen’ has been scrawled on the surface of Mars. What are Victorians doing on the home of the Ice Warriors? And what will they find beneath the Martian soil?”

In so many ways, what is being teased here and basically vintage Doctor Who — characters who are thrown into something both familiar and different and forced to understand the truth behind it. Often, the weird and wacky with this show happens as a result of a very human reason, and this could very well be the case here. You almost hope that it will be for a chance to see Peter Capaldi shine in a moment of great gravitas by the end of the episode. (Side note: How wonderful is Capaldi? It’s a shame that many awards-show voters out there tend to thumb their nose at genre programming.)

This episode is going to be entertaining, exciting, and a necessarily way to kick off what should be a fantastic final stretch of the season. There are only four episodes left this season plus a Christmas Special — if that doesn’t make you a wee bit emotional for the departure of Capaldi from the show, it’s really hard to know what will. (Recently, we did learn that Rachel Talalay is going to direct both the final episodes of the season and also Capaldi’s swan song.)
