NCIS season 15: Michael Weatherly – Cote de Pablo reunion talk inaccurate

Michael Weatherly - Cote de Pablo

Is it possible that a Michael Weatherly – Cote de Pablo reunion could happen? Sure, but on Bull as opposed to NCIS.

How did the rumors of this start up in the first place? Unlike some rumors on the internet, this one is fairly simple to track. Weatherly recently did an interview with TheWrap discussing the Bull season 1 finale, and that was a piece discussed both here at CarterMatt and elsewhere for some of his apparent thoughts on a reunion between him and his former NCIS co-star … on this new show. How this became morphed into Tony and Ziva reuniting on NCIS proper is a tale of miscommunication.

There is a line in the aforementioned story that reads as follows:

“It’s been around a year since Weatherly starred as Agent Anthony ‘Tony’ DiNozzo on “NCIS,” but we may still see an “NCIS” reunion, since Weatherly says there are talks to bring him and Cote de Pablo (who played Ziva David) back together.”

Out of context, that phrase may look somewhat as though there is an NCIS reunion coming, but if you look at it within the scope of the overall article about Bull, it’s clear that this is a reference to Cote possibly showing up on a new show. The words NCIS reunion are meant more to relate to the fact that they were both a part of NCIS previously and them doing Bull together would, ergo be a reunion.

There are some instances where we rip on publications for misleading headlines or false rumors, especially when it comes to NCIS — here, the misread of the situation is a little more understandable, but nonetheless still needs to be cleared up. The idea of a Tiva reunion on NCIS is entirely improbable for a number of different reasons. First, Bull films in New York City, which means that Weatherly finding the time to travel back to Los Angeles for NCIS on the same production schedule is incredibly difficult. Not only would Cote then have to be available at that same exact time, but there would have to be a story worthy of her return. She already turned down an opportunity to return to the show at the end of season 13 out of a feeling that the show wasn’t going to do the character justice.

Ultimately, it seems better off to move forward to new things, and that could include Bull. Regardless of whether or not it happens, let’s just hope that the show remains entertaining and that viewership remains solid; the end of season 1 featured some of the strongest content to date, especially after the arrival of Eliza Dushku as J.P. Nunnelly.

As always, we welcome your thoughts on a Cote – Michael reunion, whether it be on NCIS or somewhere else, in the comments. (Photo: CBS.)
