Is NCIS: Los Angeles new tonight? Season 9 implications and more
Unfortunately, that is not something that you will get a chance to see tonight, or in the relatively new future, for that matter. There is no new episode airing tonight, as the season formally ended last week. Season 9 is not currently slated to premiere until the fall, and at that point there will be a good opportunity to pick up on the story of Deeks and Kensi as an engaged couple, and Sam in order to see a little bit more of how he is functioning in the aftermath of precisely what he went through with his now-deceased wife Michelle.
There is one key change worth noting going into this season, and that is the show shifting back to now be the anchor of the 9:00 p.m. Eastern spot this fall. What this means mostly is that there could be more viewers watching who are out doing other things earlier in the night; yet, the fear is that the show also now runs the right of not getting as much of the NFL lead-in during the fall. Some of that viewer trickle-down could go instead to the new Jeremy Piven series Wisdom of the Crowd, which as an ambitious premise but also a title that is not exactly memorable to say out loud. This is the timeslot that Madam Secretary had this past season, and the Tea Leoni series is now moving back to the fateful 10:00 spot, one of the trickiest ones for any show to have given that there are times shows get outright preempted here because of preemptions elsewhere in the schedule.
While the new time may be somewhat frustrating given that this is the second straight year with a time change, it is likely that viewers are going to stick with the show and keep watching if they enjoy it already. After all, it does provide escapism in the way that few others do.
