Grey’s Anatomy season 14 debate: Is Megan actually alive?

One of the great things about what Grey’s Anatomy did over the course of its season 14 finale was that it effectively created leverage. It put itself in a position where it could veer in one direction with its story. Or, it could turn things around and maneuver in an entirely different way. It was all about flexibility, and that is really the sort of thing that any show wants going into a new season.

Specifically, Grey’s Anatomy has itself in a more interesting situation than most thanks to the status of one character, who nobody knows precisely if they are actually alive: Megan. Owen and Amelia were told that her body was found, but is it really her? That is the cliffhanger going into the start of season 14, and the issues surrounding this could bounce all over the place depending on what the show decides to do.

For example, if they choose to bring Bridget Regan back to the show and the character is still alive, what this means is that the relationship between Meredith and Nathan is effectively done. Not only that, but it also changes Owen’s whole outlook on life. It gives him so much more hope than he ever had beforehand. It brings in an interesting new face and someone that the writers can play around with as they try to figure out some of the best stories that they want to tell.

Alternately, there is a ton of drama that could come out of her still being dead. Can you imagine waiting this long to see someone you think is alive, only for the rug to be pulled out from under you? It’d most likely be devastating, but it could be the position that Owen finds himself in? Maybe the woman that was found was someone who simply looked similar but is not actually her. No matter what anyone is told or thinks, this is still Grey’s Anatomy and as a result of that, there is always the capacity for something truly crazy to happen that flips the world off its axis and sends people on a crazy downward spiral.
