Last Man Standing season 7: Studio looking for new home after cancellation

Last Man Standing season 7

Even despite its recent cancellation, hope for a Last Man Standing season 7 is not necessarily lost. The studio is looking for a new home.

If this were any other show, perhaps this would not be nearly the subject of discussion that it is. Yet, the controversy surrounding the Last Man Standing cancellation is one that has taken over a big chunk of the internet amidst conspiracy theories that the show was canceled because of star Tim Allen’s conservative leanings. ABC head Channing Dungey denied that; it’s possible that the answer could be somewhere in between. For those curious, there is already an article on the site explaining some of the further dynamics that were at play here, including outside ownership and cost for keeping a big-name actor like Allen on board.

At the bottom of this article, you can see the first statement from Allen on the show’s cancellation. Meanwhile, Howard Kurtzman, one of the studio presidents over at 20th Century Fox TV, added the following per Variety:

“We really were expecting a pickup. The fact that we didn’t get a pickup was a surprise and a disappointment. I think no one was more disappointed than Tim Allen, such a huge star with such a huge following … We’re starting to explore that. If it’s not going to go forward at ABC, of course [fellow president Jonnie Davis] and I are hopeful that we can find another home for it.”

One of the biggest issues that Last Man Standing faces now is one of perception, where it is labeled as a show for conservatives more so than just a comedy. What any show would benefit from is just stripping down the labels and allowing themselves to appeal to as large of an audience as possible. It’s a little challenging to see where the show fits in terms of any of the major networks, but it’s easy to assume that someone out there within the cable world would be interested in picking it up. The larger question there is whether or not they would be able to afford it judging from the price of the show and of its star at this point in its run. All of this could prove challenging.
