The Big Bang Theory season 10 finale: What could the ‘surprise’ be?

On Thursday night’s The Big Bang Theory season 10 finale, there is apparently going to be a moment where jaws hit the floor. While we know that promos are prone to some hyperbole, the one below for this episode wants you to know that there is an enormous surprise coming at the heart of the hour. It’s something that could be life-altering in terms of the characters and their lives, and we have to think that it’s something that could also make for a big cliffhanger.

So what could it be? Rather than trying to base our thoughts on the promo itself, we’ve got a wide array of possible ideas.

1. Someone is pregnant – Maybe Howard and Bernadette already are expecting another child, or maybe Penny or Amy are going to enter the motherhood ring. The latter idea is certainly the one that would stir up the most discussion given the fact that Amy is living on the other side of the country after taking the summer gig with Princeton. Also, it’s hard to fathom Sheldon as a father, but that’s something that would bring a lot of funny moments as well as some growth for his character.

The one issue with this twist is that not everyone out there loves stories about parenting, so making this show go too much in that direction is dangerous creatively. But if the folks over on Bones can make marriage and parenting stories work well on TV then we know there can be others.

2. Sheldon cheats with Ramona – There has to be a reason why Riki Lindhome is returning for the first time in years at this point, right? We do briefly get a glimpse of her and Sheldon getting close to each other, so there could be a legitimate cause for some concern here. We don’t think that Sheldon is the cheating type, but it may take him a little bit of time before he realizes what is going on.

3. People get rich – Maybe there’s a windfall coming from the government project that Sheldon, Leonard, and Howard are not expecting?

4. Sheldon proposes – This is probably the simplest of the ideas, but it’s something that there is some significant ground laid out for already given that we know he has the engagement ring. Also, not having Amy around may convince him further to make the move. It’s the classic “you don’t know what it’s going until it’s gone” move, but The Big Bang Theory will find a way to make it original.

5. Someone is leaving – This feels incredibly unlikely given that all of the main cast members are set for another season. Stuart’s future may be a tad more uncertain, but we don’t see him going anywhere, either. (At least we hope not — we’re already getting less Kripke than we used to.)
