Criminal Minds season 12 episode 21 spoilers: Can Reid help his mother?

Criminal Minds season 12 episode 21 is airing on CBS next week, but it’s far from an ordinary episode of the long-running show. For one, this is an installment that is effectively the first of a two-part finale. Also, this is going to be one that features a character in Reid’s mother Diana who may not physically appear over the course of the hour.

For now, Jane Lynch is not listed as one of the primary guest stars on “Green Light” next week. Yet, at the same time the synopsis below strongly indicates that she is going to be involved in the story.

Criminal Minds season 12 episode 21 synopsis – “When Reid fears his mother has been abducted, he asks the BAU to investigate while he’s stuck in prison.”

The bad news for the episode is pretty clear — we know that there are many people out there who were hoping to see Reid out of prison at this point. It doesn’t really matter so much whether or not he’s close to getting out of that predicament. The reality here still remains that he is still there, and to make matters worse, his mother, whose health is deteriorating, is utterly defenseless if she’s been taken by someone. This is going to be a race against time for all people involved to find a way to figure things out before tragedy ends up striking yet again.

Beyond all of this, one of the other things that we can say about the finale airing on May 10 is that the title for this episode is “Red Light,” and to go along with that, this installment will mark your first opportunity to see Jane Lynch back following her appearance on “Unforgettable” tonight. This episode will hopefully tie together the majority of the stories for this season, but if we know this show, they may want to set up something for the upcoming season 13. As for whether or not this ends up being the last season, or if there are many other changes to come, there’ll be another time for that. We just hope that the show’s going to be around for many more years to come.

Tonight, we learned that it may be Lindsey, otherwise known as Carol Atkinson, who framed Reid. It’s also possible she has kidnapped Diana.
