Into the Badlands renewed for 16-episode season 3
Today, the network not only announced that they are bringing the martial-arts series back for more new episodes, but they also poured a little bit more icing on the cake in confirming that it will return for a 16-episode third season. What that effectively means is that you’re going to have an opportunity to see more stories and aventures for Daniel Wu and company than ever before. We have no idea how this cast will be able to do 16 episodes without passing out from exhaustion, but we suppose that this is something that they’ll have to figure out over time.
In a statement today, AMC president Charlie Collier had the following to say in regards to bringing the show back for more episodes:
“Into the Badlands looks like nothing else on television, a literal high-wire act attracting passionate and dedicated fans by the millions … Thanks to series creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, the terrific cast, led by Daniel Wu, the amazing martial arts team guided by the incomparable Master Dee Dee and fight directors Stephen Fung and Andy Cheng, and everyone else involved who brings this thrill ride to the fans.”
This series remains one of the most popular entries on all of basic cable at the moment, though you can argue that there is somewhat of an asterisk present there thanks to the fact that it was aided significantly in the first part of the season by airing after The Walking Dead. Still, we’d be stupid to complain given that this is a great show with a great cast and to us, it’s a thrill that we are going to be able to have more of it coming up on the air over the course of the remainder of the season. This is one television’s most underrated series, and it allows us a chance to see a style and flair that we don’t often get a chance to see on a far larger scale. Overall, there’s clearly quite a bit to celebrate here.
