At the time that this story comes around, what you’re going to be seeing is yet another big storyline that puts Matthew Casey at the center of the action. Not only that, but you’re going to meet a new character in Jason Kannell who will potentially be a big part of the story for some time to come.

Chicago Fire season 5 episode 19 synopsis – “When the squad’s rig breaks down in the field, Casey (Jesse Spencer) reunites with his old friend and colleague Jason Kannell (guest star Kamal Angelo Bolden) from Squad 6, whose crew gets assigned a temporary change of quarters until the rig issue is resolved. Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Brett (Kara Killmer) serve their time in retraining, both tackling the class in unique ways. Severide (Taylor Kinney) tries to remedy what is going on with Anna (Charlotte Sullivan) and finds support from unlikely sources. As Connie (DuShon Monique Brown) returns from her family engagement, the crew lays bets on how long her temporary replacement Marcy (guest star Mia Hulen) will last.”

When it comes to the Anna story, we do wonder if Severide’s going to find a way to encourage her to stay. We’ve already written a piece suggesting how we would like to see Sullivan return next year as a series regular on Chicago Med rather than Chicago Fire — that just makes the most sense when it comes to the story so far this season. (Granted, maybe we shouldn’t get too ahead of ourselves here, given that we don’t even know if Anna and Severide have a future just yet after tonight’s episode.)

Also, let’s hope by the time Chicago Fire returns, the series will be renewed for a season 6! For the time reason, we remain very much optimistic about the future of the series.
