The Voice: Quizz Swanigan, Chris Blue face off in Knockout Rounds

Quizz

Tonight, The Voice Knockout Rounds officially began on NBC, and we were certainly grateful to have them! While we will still quibble with the total number of performances that we get to see per hour (there REALLY should be more than there are), at the same time we’re thrilled to have so many good artists here. Also, we’re thrilled to have separate performances so that nobody has to conform to anyone else’s performance like they did during the Battle Rounds.

Tonight’s episode kicked off with a showdown between Quizz Swanigan and Chris Blue, which is absolutely one of the better match-ups on Team Alicia Keys. It’s also a rough one, given that you have to be afraid that one of them is not going to make it to the next round.

Chris, “Superstition” – This signature Stevie Wonder song is often-covered during singing shows, but there is a good reason for that because it is one with so much energy and fun. It’s so easy for someone to get lost in this song, but the problem with singing-show versions is that you never get to hear enough of it! This is a song that’s better in its full, long-form version.

Quizz, “Chains” – This was a big change from a classic hit to a recent one as performed by Nick Jonas. Quizz is the sort of guy who we do think could be a great singer on today’s market, and he still has room to grow and improve. He’s good enough now to advance, but picking him to move forward would very much be a pick based on potential.

We figured that both of these guys would get a chance to move on to the next round, and that did end up being the case! Chris ended up getting to move forward with Alicia, while Quizz was stolen and is now a part of Team Gwen Stefani. We’ll see what the two of them bring to the table during the live shows.
