Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 3

What are the Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders season 3 renewal odds? Given that CBS didn’t confirm the show’s future one way or another when they renewed many of their other shows recently, its fate is still firmly up in the air.

However, we’re glad to see that the show is doing what it can at this point to improve its chances of coming back. Wednesday night’s episode, which we did label as the best one for the season to date, generated in total a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s an improvement from the week before, and it puts the show at its average. Given that there was some solid competition in between Chicago PD and Designated Survivor in that timeslot, we don’t think that the show fared too badly it all.

If you are one of those people who does like to compare fall versus spring ratings, Beyond Borders isn’t too far off from the 1.0 rating that Code Black had for the fall, and it had the benefit of airing in a timeslot where there are more viewers; not only that, but also a timeslot where there was more time for promotion. Remember, Beyond Borders was a fill-in show following the cancellation of Doubt by CBS.

This status may actually be what ends up saving the Criminal Minds spin-off for another season. We’re in an era now where there is so much competition between various shows that not everything is going to stick. CBS as a network should be aware of the fact that some things will be getting canceled. Therefore, they better prepare for another cancellation, and bringing this show back means that they’re going to get a guaranteed performance. It may not draw the biggest ratings, but it does have a devoted following already.

In the end, the true test for this show will come later in April when it airs without having new episodes of Criminal Minds as a lead-in. If it can stay around the 0.9 level and not sink too far below that, we do think that it’s got a chance of coming back. There are some other holes in the schedule that the network needs to fix that giving it 13 episodes shouldn’t be a net negative at all.
