Chicago Med exclusive sneak peek: What puts Will Halstead on edge?

Will Halstead

On Thursday night’s new episode of Chicago Med, you better prepare to see a more emotional side of Dr. Will Halstead than ever before. His former teacher Dr. Bella Rowan, a woman that he visits on a monthly basis in the nursing home, ends up finding her way to the hospital and under his care. What makes him so upset is how she apparently ended up there in the first place.

In the exclusive sneak peek below from this episode (entitled “Lesson Learned”) you can see Dr. Halstead do everything that he can in order to help his longtime mentor. Unfortunately, the more that he works on her, the more that he starts to feel as though intubation is the only option to care for her. It’s dangerous at her age, and he clashes with Dr. Manning about it before making the decision. In his mind, it never should’ve come to this.

As if he wasn’t upset enough about the situation, then a representative from the nursing home in Mr. Sherwood shows up. He insists that the nursing home was doing their best to care for her, but Will’s not interested in listening. He strongly suggests that there was elder abuse at play, and in his mind having intubation as his only option is the evidence.

In watching this Chicago Med sneak peek, you do get a better sense as to why Will was so emotional in the previously-released promo for the episode, and why he looks to Natalie for comfort. Dr. Nina Shore sees the two of them embracing from afar in the promo, and it’s possible the moment could be a turning point in their relationship. If nothing else, it’s an important conversation piece for whenever they’re off work.

Given recent events, we would imagine everyone within the Chicago Med universe remains on edge. Remember that many are still reeling from the suicide in the last episode, and this is not a job that offers up many opportunities for the doctors and nurses to recover or process their feelings. The latter was portrayed perfectly in the last episode when Dr. Reese took a moment to ask Dr. Charles how he was feeling in the midst of so much distress.

Be sure to come back to CarterMatt on Thursday night, as there will be both a full review for “Lesson Learned” and a preview for the next Chicago Med online at the show archive page.
